Insurance & Self-Pay

Paying without insurance

Insurance is one path to care, not the only one. Self-pay, health-share, and out-of-network reimbursement are all supported here: same providers, same standards, different billing path.

Three paths

Pick the one that fits your situation

Each path is quoted in writing before you schedule. Payment is due at the time of service in all three cases.

Self-pay

No insurance involved

Request an appointment without submitting insurance information. We quote the rate in writing before scheduling is finalized. Many families choose self-pay when their plan does not cover lactation, when they want a streamlined visit, or when they prefer to keep the visit off their insurance record.

  • Written quote before scheduling
  • Card on file required to schedule
  • No carrier paperwork on your end
  • HSA / FSA eligible
Out-of-network

Reimburse through your plan

If your plan includes out-of-network benefits, you can pay at the visit and submit an itemized superbill to your insurer for partial reimbursement. PPO plans usually have OON benefits; HMOs, EPOs, Medicaid, and most Marketplace plans don’t. They only cover in-network providers.

  • Requires out-of-network benefits
  • Itemized superbill provided after every visit
  • Step-by-step submission guide
  • Reimbursement paid directly to you (when approved)

A deposit is required for the first visit on these plans.

Transparent pricing

Self-pay rates

Every visit has two prices: the Timely Payment Discount rate, paid the day of the visit from a card on file, and the full billed price if that charge doesn’t go through within two business days. The TPD rate is what most self-pay clients actually pay.

How the two prices work

Card on file, charged on the day of your visit, at the discounted rate.

If your card charges successfully within two business days, you pay the Timely Payment Discount (TPD) rate shown in pink. If the charge fails and isn’t resolved within two business days, the visit reverts to the full billed price shown beneath.

Visits for new clients

Lactation visits with an IBCLC (International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant). Visits with a Certified Breastfeeding Specialist or a Lactation Counselor in training may also be available; ask at intake.

Out-of-network path

Already paid out-of-pocket?

If you have a superbill from a visit, the step-by-step guide walks you through submitting it to your carrier, including the codes to keep handy and what to do if they push back. Reimbursement requires that your plan include out-of-network benefits.
