In-network with Cigna through Wildflower

Lactation coverage for Cigna in Houston and San Antonio

We are in-network with Cigna through Wildflower, our billing partner. Wildflower is contracted directly with Cigna and submits your claim on our behalf, so Cigna PPO members have no co-pays or deductibles for our visits. Cigna HMO plans are self-pay only. We verify your benefits before your first visit.

How Cigna coverage actually works with us

Cigna is the one carrier where we are not directly in-network. The path to coverage depends on whether your plan is PPO or HMO and whether Wildflower can route your claim. Verification will tell you exactly which path applies.

  • Cigna PPO via Wildflower

Cigna PPO plans are billed through Wildflower with no co-pay or deductible.

  • Cigna HMO plans

We are not in-network with Cigna HMO products. HMO patients are self-pay.

  • If Wildflower cannot bill your plan

If your plan cannot be routed through Wildflower, your visits are self-pay. International plans may be non-ACA or grandfathered and may not be accepted by Wildflower.

How it works

How we work with your insurance

  1. You submit the intake form

Tell us about your plan and what is going on with feeding. The form is HIPAA compliant and routes directly to our billing team.

  2. We check Wildflower

Our billing team confirms whether Wildflower can bill your plan. If not, your visits are self-pay and we give you the rate up front.

  3. You get a written estimate

Before your first visit you receive an email confirming which path applies (Wildflower or self-pay) and the expected out-of-pocket cost.

  4. The partner files the claim

Wildflower submits the claim on our behalf. You do not need to do anything different at the visit. The routing is invisible to you.

Cigna rules to know

Plan-specific details for Cigna patients

No referrals needed for our Cigna patients

Because we route through Wildflower rather than billing Cigna directly, you do not need a referral or preauthorization. Our billing partner handles the routing using your intake-form information.

Baby’s claim, when we bill, when we don’t

When your visit is routed through Wildflower under a Cigna plan and the baby is covered under the same Cigna policy, Cigna covers both patients on the same claim, so we don’t submit a separate claim on baby’s side. If your baby is covered under a different insurer (not Cigna), we’ll submit a claim on baby’s policy as well.

Telehealth on Cigna Allegiance plans

Telehealth (virtual) lactation visits are not covered under any Cigna Allegiance plan. If you have a Cigna Allegiance plan, a virtual visit is self-pay. In-person visits still route through Wildflower as usual.

Confirming what your specific plan covers and whether Wildflower can route it is the point of the verification step. The list above reflects general patterns, not a guarantee for any individual plan.

Cigna questions

Cigna-specific questions

What is Wildflower?

Wildflower is our in-network billing partner for Cigna. They contract directly with Cigna and submit claims on our behalf for our in-person visits. Cigna PPO members have no co-pays or deductibles for our visits when routed through Wildflower. You do not need to do anything different on your end.

Why is Cigna different from your other carriers?

For Aetna, BCBS, Curative, Humana, Sana, TRICARE, and UHC, we have direct in-network contracts. Cigna does not have a direct contract with us. To make Cigna coverage work for our patients, we partnered with Wildflower, who does have a direct contract with Cigna. Cigna PPO patients end up with the same out-of-pocket experience as our in-network patients on other carriers.

My Cigna plan is HMO. Can I still see you?

Yes, but as a self-pay patient. Cigna HMO plans are not billable through us or through Wildflower. If you book with us on a Cigna HMO plan, the visit is billed at our self-pay rate, with the rate confirmed in writing during verification.

Do I need to wait for my insurance to be verified before booking my appointment?

No. You can book your appointment before your insurance is verified. As long as you submit your insurance information at least 1–2 business days (Monday through Friday) before your appointment, our team will have enough time to verify your coverage prior to your visit. If you are submitting the day before your scheduled visit, please submit by 3 PM so we have time to verify.

If we discover that your plan is not covered or has unusual restrictions, we will notify you by email and text message. If you decide to cancel your appointment due to lack of coverage, we will waive the cancellation fee as long as you request cancellation on the same day we notify you.
